Elevating Industrial Facades with LEXAN™ THERMOCLICK™

Thermally efficient, lightweight facades for large-format buildings.

Designed by: COX Architecture | Product: LEXAN THERMOCLICK OPAL Tint

When designing a purpose-built private aviation terminal at Melbourne Airport, aesthetics, functionality and structural performance couldn’t be compromised. For Melbourne Jet Base, a world-class facility servicing VIP travellers, foreign dignitaries, and global executives, a premium cladding solution was needed — one that delivered on both architectural intent and real-world environmental performance.

That’s where LEXAN THERMOCLICK™ from Ampelite came in.

Meeting Architectural Demands with Practical Performance

Architects today face growing pressure to deliver facades that are:

  • Compliant with energy efficiency requirements (NCC Section J),
  • Capable of withstanding harsh UV and weather conditions,
  • Lightweight for structural efficiency,
  • And visually clean with minimal framing for streamlined design.

LEXAN THERMOCLICK™ addresses all of these.

At Melbourne Jet Base, over 3000m² of 40mm OPAL-tinted panels were installed across expansive facade sections. The system’s tongue-and-groove interlocking design allowed for seamless, joint-free spans with minimal visible framing — a major win for COX Architects, who prioritised a clean and elegant envelope.

Beyond the design, the 40mm panel delivers high thermal performance and UV protection, making it suitable for large-span glazed applications like hangars, terminals, and commercial buildings that face extreme temperature shifts and solar exposure.

Why Thermoclick Works for Industrial and Commercial Projects

  • Integrated UV protection ensures long-term clarity and colour stability.
  • High insulation values reduce heat load and assist in meeting NCC energy requirements.
  • Quick, modular installation helps reduce time and labour costs on large builds.
  • Light transmission with diffused glare control creates a usable internal environment without harsh light or overheating.

In a sector dominated by steel and glass, LEXAN™ THERMOCLICK™ gives architects an alternative — a lightweight, high-performance facade system that’s as practical as it is visually refined.

Melbourne Jet Base sets a new standard for private aviation design in Australia. We’re proud to have supported the project with a solution that not only looks sharp but continues to perform under pressure — day in, day out.
